Friends of Clyde Rice, a non-profit organization, seeks to foster and promote literature and art that speaks to a healthy relationship between people and land in the Pacific Northwest. We use Clyde Rice's name in honor of his literary success and example in this endeavor. |
Clyde Rice published his first novel, A Heaven in the Eye, at the age of 81. It was the winner in 1984 of the Western States Book Award for Creative Nonfiction. It was followed in 1987 by Night Freight , and Nordi's Gift in 1990. |
Friends of Clyde Rice, purchased Clyde and Virginia Rice's property in 1995. The 10-acre, largely natural, greenspace on the Clackamas River, along with the historical hand-built rammed-earth house, will be preserved in perpetuity as a place for generations to experience. |
